High V Gen 3b Li-ion Batteries
Objectives

• IntelLiGent will design optimized electrode structures to achieve the energy density and fast charging targets
• Balance the need to include a high amount of active material in the electrode structure for high-energy while also facilitating the transport of mass, charge, and heat for high-power operation
Relation to Work Programme: High voltage cathode operation at 4.7+ V structured for optimized electric conductivity, etc. with cell power of 700 W/kg and 1500+W/L
Verifiable Linked Results: Developed of electrode structures, supported by modelling, for high energy density (>350Wh/kg) while maintaining fast charging capabilities (>2C).

• Stabilization of SEI against mechanical degradation and attack from transition metal ions
• Focus on stabilizing the interface between the electrolyte and high-voltage active materials by a tailored CEI
Relation to Work Programme: Tailoring and operando monitoring of the electrochemical interplay between the active materials and the electrolyte by the formation of stable SEI/CEI interphases
Verifiable Linked Results: Successful demonstration of IntelLiGent battery cell with long cycle life (>2000 deep cycles) with 80% remaining capacity

• Aqueous processing of cathodes
• Low-CO2 synthetic Si-Gr composite anode materials with a production based on hydropower
Relation to Work Programme: Advanced Li-ion batteries delivering on cost, performance, safety, sustainability and recyclability, with clear prospects for cost-competitive large-scale manufacturing and uptake by the electro mobility as well as other application sectors
Verifiable Linked Results: Cost-competitive IntelLiGent 2 battery cells produced with significantly less environmental impact as compared to SoA batteries (Is linked to NTO-1)

• Ensure that project results are suitable for commercial applications
• Cooperation with industrial partners and advisors to develop solutions that can directly benefit the European battery value chain
Relation to Work Programme: Broad market penetration, helping to reduce GHG emissions of the transport and industry sectors to support EU’s efforts to become climate-neutral by 2050
Verifiable Linked Results: Proof-of-concept validation of IntelLiGent 2 battery cells assembled in module (1kWh) and tested under relevant conditions at TRL 6

• Develop solutions that are compatible with the EU regulatory framework setting sustainability requirements for batteries
Relation to Work Programme: Establishment of a competitive European industrial battery value chain
Verifiable Linked Results: Cost-competitive IntelLiGent 2 battery cells produced with significantly less environmental impact as compared to SoA batteries (no cobalt, half the amount of lithium, non-fluorinated binders, aqueous processing, reduced carbon footprint, is linked to TO-3).

•Strong emphasis on targeted advertisement and dissemination of its results to all relevant stakeholders (battery industry and their customers as well as the transport sector, policy makers and the general public)
Verifiable Linked Results: Broad dissemination of the project results, including the general public
